The Medicinal Plant Research Group, University of Seville, led by Professor of Pharmacology Dolores García, has found that “the oil from hemp seed has potentially beneficial components to the body,” according to the Jano platform. The study, which was published in latest issue of Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry discloses a complete absence of cannabinoids, so no narcotic effects develop.
Hemp and its derivatives have special properties, nobody doubts it. And that serves as anti-pain therapy for its particular purposes, either. Scientists have taken a step in the investigation of the benefits of this plant and its seeds bring benefits beyond the exclusive supply of the famous omega-3. As published in the study, “the chemical composition of this oil containing polyunsaturated fatty acids, as well as other minor components, potentially bioactive, and a total absence of cannabinoids and, therefore, effects of drugs.”
By analyzing the composition of hemp seed oil, researchers have observed something very striking: contains polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega-3 series. “We were surprised to see its content in omega-3 and omega-6 ratio responded to the fourth, considered optimal for health,” says study leader. The Frye says, “is shown to be more beneficial dietary intake of these fatty acids that the exclusive supply of omega-3, this oil also contains another series of potentially bioactive minor components such as some phenolic compounds, sterols and fatty alcohols, among others. “
The only time study was developed in rodents. “Each group of mice were administered a diet enriched with various oils and after seven weeks we submit them a model of stress,” says the professor of the Department of Pharmacology, University of Sevilla, Maria Angeles Fernandez. In this second stage “a number of parameters related to pain sensitivity, depression, anxiety and inflammation, to observe whether the induced symptoms have improved or not by dieting” are measured.
“Our next step is to show the results of the effect of a diet supplemented with hemp oil in an experimental mouse model of fibromyalgia, which is observed as this diet decreases sensitivity to pain, improves inflammatory component and reverses other symptoms associated to this syndrome,” she explains.
Will she unseat the omega-3 in the future? Or will gain prejudice?
